Do you have any suggestions or changes for this program? Not really, I really like the books chosen to go through this year and I'm excited for next years!

Great job finishing all 15 lessons and we look forward to seeing you at camp this summer! What is one thing you learned from doing all these lessons or what stood out to you from these lessons?Mostly what I learned and what stood out to me what how deep the Psalms are, because it's so easy to read them at first glance and be like these are cool song lyrics but actually diving deeper and finding daily advice and wisdom and ways to grow has been really cool I want to start memorizing some of them. I really enjoyed this program because it gave me a time to read my bible but more importantly understand it because so many times I read and it's like in one ear out the other. Answering questions and rereading passages has helped me gain a much deeper understanding of what I read!

QuestionAnswer
How is this a comfort in times of fear?Because I know even If I mess up and everyone leaves, He never will. It takes pressure off things and just makes me want to do my best. In times of fear I need to focus on that He is the most important thing.

Is it easy?Nope!

Notice the start of this psalm: “Whom shall I fear?” Now notice the end of this psalm. How important is it to trust and wait for Got to act? So important. When we trust and wait for God to act, He does His will which is better than anything we can imagine or try to do ourselves. He deals justice in His way and while that might be confusing or annoying for us sometime, we need to remind ourselves His way's better. When I try to fight back on my own I make Him and myself look bad. My will doesn't end up being as good as I think it will. So I need to just trust, and wait. In that waiting we can praise and pray.

Final conversation. David’s point is that even if my father and mother forsake me something is always true. What is always true? It's always true that our Heavenly Father will let us in. Our parents make mistakes, let us down, or don't want to let us in after we've done something. But God is not the same. His arms are always open, eager to accept us and be in our lives. Such a sweet picture.
Add Comment
This last conversation is about not giving in. When we give in to hatred because of fear we travel the same road as our enemies. When they breathe our violence, then so do we. It is a natural response to fear and hate. It is also the wrong response to it. What three things does David rely on to not walk the road of his adversaries? He relies on being taught the LORD's way, being led on an even path, and not being given up to the will of his enemies. We should pray, try to be the bigger person, let Jesus deal the justice instead of ourselves.

What can you do to help you during those times when it is not easy to wait on the Lord?Bring it to Him. Not carry the weight on our shoulders alone, to lift it to Him because nothing's too heavy for Him. Pray, talk to a trusted believer about it, read His word.

Teen Lesson 15:3 | Read Psalm 51 and Psalm 27:7-9
QuestionAnswer
As a Christian, do you ever have to fear that God will abandon you?No, not since I've been truly following Jesus. One night I got close to thinking this as I cried on my kitchen floor mat in the darkness after something really hard and just asked God why but even then I knew His presence was there and He was working.
Add Comment
Now the second conversation (verses 7-9). What do you notice about Psalm 51 and Psalm 27:7-9?I notice David is seeking the Lord and asking God to answer him. He asks for grace and deliverance, crying out to Go.d

How is David words “You have said, "Seek my face." My heart says to you, "Your face, LORD, do I seek,” a realization that God will never abandon you?I don't know how it's a revelation that God will never abandon us. Whether we seek His face or not, He's with us and always is waiting for His prodigal children to return to Him. He is forgiving and loving and I wonder why I deserve to experience a relationship with Him.

Now notice David’s praise in verse 6. How is it possible to be filled with joy and worship God passionately in the midst of the fears in our lives? It's possible because He gives us strength when we ask. It's possible because anything is possible with God. In the midst of our fears, praising God joyfully re-focuses our attention and looks to the good, the faithfulness, and the victory of God.
Add Comment
What in verse 2 keeps you from doing so?God's justice. I've experienced this. When we bring it to God and leave it there, instead of taking it into our own hands, He deals with it. They stumble and fall. It might not be in the way we expect, but He is just.

Enemies, war! That is a lot to be afraid of. Why is David confident nonetheless?Honestly I don't know. Well I do, but I can't imagine being in his situation. Praying when your life is on the line, people you know are dying, the enemy looks to be winning. That takes a lot of faith. I need to pray more, when things are good and bad. His confidence is in God's victory, strength, and power.

Have you ever been bullied and wanted to retaliate? Yes and I have retaliated before, by trying to say something back. I always end up feeling bad.

The answer to why is found in verse 4 & 5. What action did David take that took away his fears? One action David did was ask the Lord to dwell in His house. He wants to be close to God and do every step with Him. He knows the Lord will protect Him in His shelter and conceal us from trouble. We might go through some to refine and discipline us, but He protects us from so much.

What is David’s response to his fears? His response is singing to God, praising Him for how He's been faithful and having hope. He knows God has already won so there's nothing to be afraid of.

David was a warrior and this was a warrior psalm. We all have our own battles. How we handle them will determine our lives. David’s conclusion is a powerful reminder of who is fight our battles and what we need to do: 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! David first question is the most important. It beings the first conversation David has with himself when he is afraid. We are pushed around by a lot of fears in life. Sometimes it is a matter of life and death type fears, other times it is as simple as the fear of rejection. What fears tend to push you around?Fear of rejection for sure. Fear of growing up, getting a job, living alone. Fear of never having a strong Christian friend group. Fear of loved ones passing. Fear of under performing in sports.

What image does the still waters bring to your mind?It brings an image of a flowing river with fish and flowers, no waves or trash. I picture Jesus walking with me smiling and protecting me from danger.
Add Comment
The next phrase is "He leads me beside still waters,"; sheep will follow whoever will lead them. If they follow other sheep, they might end of dead. Have you followed someone other than Jesus? How did that end up?Yes. I've followed friends that didn't love Jesus and they led me to a lot of things I wish I didn't do/say. Or it ended up with me hurting someone close to me.
Add Comment
What is the connection between green pastures, still waters and He restores my soul? When our souls aren't restored, when they are lost, all the things around us are harder darker, at least for me they were I was going through bad things and I didn't have someone to lean on, I didn't have hope or peace. Since He's saved me and restored my soul, I'm still going through some of the same really hard things I was going through before, but now the weight isn't on MY shoulders, He's carrying it, leading me through the darkness with hope and freedom, I have someone to talk to and specifically the God of the universe who's been answering my prayers.
Add Comment
How important is it to have a life where Jesus is leading it?It's the most important thing. Jesus created us to follow Him. To have Him lead is to stay on a path of love, joy, peace, to stray and follow other gods leads to being tricked, satan doesn't care about us he wants us to hurt, but Jesus wants to give us a joyful life where we serve others and are content with all the blessings He gives us.

All captials LORD means Yahweh, "I Am" and "I have been" and also "I shall be." He is eternal, it is a perfect name. What are some things you think about when you think of God?When I think of God, I think of a lot of different things. Mostly as Creator and as love. A protector, shepherd, cornerstone, lion, all powerful, outside of time, sometimes I just think of the sun. I love that Yahweh means eternal and goes with the verse that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

QuestionAnswer
Sheep are very helpless, they can eat themselves to death if not watched and if you put them on their backs they can die as they can't right themselves. Isaiah 53:6 says, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-everyone- to his own way." We, like sheep, would be forever lost and would easily die without a Shepherd. Is God your Shepherd?Yes, He is. And I've already seen impacts of this in my life after choosing Him. Areas that have been cleaned and I feel like I'm living. He keeps me from danger and gives me so much peace.
Add Comment
This is the Psalm for today and it starts out with The LORD, that's why we reviewed what it means. It's important to realize who is the Shepherd. If the Lord is the Shepherd, what are we?We are the sheep! We are loved and taken care of by Him. In a flock, following around the shepherd.

Do your actions (the way you live) demonstrate that God is your Shepherd?Yes, but I could do better. I slip up a lot and struggle with gossiping and getting angry with my siblings and need to do a better job of representing Jesus.

Hebrews 12:6 tells us God disciplines those He loves. David found comfort in God's discipline because it showed him God loved him. It is a way to know and experience God's presence. How can you see God's discipline as bringing comfort?Because His discipline is Him wanting better for us. If God disciplined someone for stealing, He's also protecting them from the consequences of stealing, like jail. He wants what's best for us but also He wants us to be like Him. That's comforting.
Add Comment
What as David not afraid of in verse 4?David is not afraid of evil. He's not afraid of satan and his minions.

Have you experienced God's discipline?Yes. Not in a super exact way I can remember, but He's shown me when I'm wrong and have not been the bigger person or forgiven someone for sure. I think He disciplines us daily through His word.

A shepherd uses his staff to guide, direct and discipline his sheep. Do you find it comforting when your parents discipline you?Not in the moment ever. But now as a teen looking back I'm glad they disciplined me when I was younger because it's made me care more about doing what's right, and helped me create habits to not do something I know is wrong. I go to public school now and sometimes see the results of people who weren't disciplined when they were younger.

Teens face a host of fears: Fear of not being accepted, fear of not fitting in, fear of not being loved, fear of being made fun of, fear of being embarrassed, fear of being let down, How can you move from living in fear to living with a peace that comes from God?I can move by being with Him more, getting closer to Him, reading His word, worshiping Him, the closer I am to Him, the smaller everything and everyone else will seem. Not that people don't matter, they do, but I mean what are enemies when I have God on my side? Then I can be kinder to my enemies knowing no matter what they do to me I have Jesus.

How should looking intently at what has been made (creation) cause you to think about how great God is?Because everything is so unique, an orange is pre-sliced, humans are so complex, there are so many systems like rain and earthquakes and all of it cannot have just come from nothing. Nature shows us God's glory, He only took six days to make it while we are still finding new things after thousands of years of studying it.

How should looking intently at what has been made (creation) cause you to ask why God should have anything to do with me?Because God made this creation, mountains, oceans, animals, and still thought "something's missing". QuestionAnswer
There are two references to Jesus in the Psalm 8 passage. The first in Daniel 7:13-14. The second in Hebrews 2:5-15. If the last part of verse 4 (the son of man) and following to the end of verse 7 is about Jesus, how would this lead to a greater understand of why we should say: “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth?”This leads to a greater understanding of why we should say LORD, our Lord, because LORD is the God of Israel, Yahweh, who created everything and crowned His son with glory through His son's death, and He's our Lord because that means our master, who has authority, and He through death destroyed the one who had power of death, the devil.

Next, “You have established strength because of your foes.” Also, notice what David writes next “…to still the enemy, and the avenger.” Notice that foes are plural and enemy and avenger are singular. “You have set your glory above the heavens?” Some translate that a bit like this: “You have set your glory in the heavens above.” Others think this means that God is greater and beyond the heavens (universe and everything in it). What do you think and why?I agree with this. His glory is in the Heavens, His home He's created, where we one day get to live with Him. He created the universe, is it's author, so I think He could be beyond it. To me His power is just immeasurable.

How does this relate to Jesus’ confrontation with the chief priests and the scribes mentioned in Matthew 21?The chief priests and scribes didn't like what He was doing, healing people. They were being influenced by Satan's workers who didn't want to see Jesus' work done.
Add Comment
Now some Interpretation questions. “Oh LORD our Lord.” These are not the same words. The LORD in all caps is YHWH (Yahweh) it is the Eternal Creator LORD of the Universe. Lord is Adonai which means ruler in the sense of king or governor. Why does David refer to the Eternal God of the Universe as, “our Lord” or our king? I think He refers to the Eternal God of the universe as Lord our King because He is, and as a reminder that no matter who's ruler at the time of where we live, or who's president or king, He is the King of kings.

Please note that most scholars think that David was young when he wrote this song. David spent many nights out under the stars. He spent many a night thinking about God. So since you have studied psalm 19 what have you been thinking about God and Jesus? I've been thinking about how loving they are. They have all power, so they could force us to do what they want or honor them, but instead they choose to give us choices which means humans can choose to deny them and hurt their creation, which must be hard for them. They made such a beautiful world for us to live in, and since reading more Psalms I've been trying to be more aware and thankful for the nature I see.

First notice the structure by following the action. One thing you should notice is that the verse breaks in the wrong place. Please note that chapter breaks and verse breaks were done by Robert Stephanus in the 16th century and he had no idea what he was doing and unfortunately they stuck. Verse 5 should begin with “In them he has set…”. If you look closely, you will notice that a person can sing the first line of the song and then the choir responds. This is repeated with both the leader and choir singing the last line together: “whose voice is not heard.” There is a middle part where the leader sings and the choir responds. Then there the final part which is a repeat of the first – leader, response, leader, response, both: “and there sin nothing hidden from its heat.” From this structure you can make out the meaning or point of this song. So what is the point of this song? There's some typos in this so I can't fully understand the question, or maybe not typos but symbols that i'm not sure what they mean?

What must the being who made all this, both what is seen and what is not seen, be like? The being must be all powerful. To create seen and unseen, heaven and earth, to have knowledge that we can't even begin to grasp, is just glory and deserves our praise. The fact that such a powerful being gives us freewill instead of forcing us to bow to Him just shows how loving He is even though He could choose to be a tyrant.

Notice verse 30. The last phrase is, “disobedient to parents.” How is not respecting those in authority over you – your parents – an example of not clearly seeing and acknowledging God for who He is.Not respecting our earthly parents correlates to not respecting our Heavenly Parent, our Father God. He created us in His image and it's His design for us to follow Him, and also to follow our parents (as long as they're not asking us to sin).
Add Comment
Pay close attention to Romans 1:19-21. Why do people not clearly see God and what He is like by what has been made?People don't clearly see God and what He is like because they don't want to have to give up their passions and desires. Deep down, everyone knows He is real and created everything. That's what this passage is saying, that humans are so simple they want to only believe in what's right in front of their eyes.

So go outside on a clear night in a dark place and look up and ask yourself: “What do I learn about the being who made all this?”Actually at Camp Morrow three years ago is where I had one of these experiences. Where I live (near Seattle) it's beautiful but because of the light pollution we never see any stars in the sky even on a clear night. However at camp I would look up and see so many, I couldn't even process it. God has a name for every star, and He still looked at that creation and thought "somethings missing" and created us. WE are His masterpiece, not the stars or oceans or mountains. God is so loving.

The way we would say verse 8 is “the moment my head hit the pillow I am out like a light.” How is this possible in the midst of great trials? It's possible because we trust God. Verse 4 is a bit odd. That seems strange. Read Ephesians 4:17-27. The word for anger here is not “be mad” but rather be in awe of God. A better word is fear, or revere. Often when we stew over something we leave God out of it. How would fearing God (trusting, turn it over to God) prevent us from sinning when we are angry at someone and it is keeping us awake?Fearing God, trusting Him, can help us to bring our anger to Him when we feel it. Everyone gets angry, and instead of pushing it down or taking it out on others, we should deal with it in a Godly way, reading what He says about it, getting in the secret place and telling Him about it, not giving the devil an opportunity as it says in Ephesians.

David offers at least four things a person can do rather than stew in verse 3 and 4 that will quiet your heart so you can sleep in peace. List them here and talk about how each would quiet your heart.1. Know that God sets apart the Godly for Himself: this would quiet my heart because I know God wants and seeks a relationship with me as I follow Him, and what are other relationships compared to the God of the universe?
2. The Lord hears when I call to Him: So call to Him! Instead of spiraling on my bed, or distracting myself with technology, I can lift up my anxieties to the Lord who hears and answers, who is joyful when His children reach out to Him.
3. Ponder on your beds and be silent: I talk alot when I'm anxious or say things to people I shouldn't, with God's help I need to learn self control and quiet my heart to be a servant.

What do you notice about God and his character in this Psalm? His character is displayed as a mighty warrior, yet still loving and caring sustaining us day by day and answering our calls.

How one starts one’s day can determine not only how that day will go but often how life will go. There are countless people who live life on autopilot, just going through the motions. What is there in this Psalm that can help you start each and every day off right even if everything is going wrong?Things we can follow things in this Psalm to start our days right include lifting our anxieties to God instead of keeping them inside, "O Lord, how many are my foes!". We can praise God morning and night for who He is and how He's been faithful, which doesn't change, "You, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, the lifter of my head." We can thank God for waking us up each day and giving us new opportunities, "I woke again, and the Lord sustained me".

How do want God to use the truths in this Psalm in your life and through your life?I want Him to help me turn away from bad habits and towards good ones that draw me closer to Him and a content life. Putting Him first when I wake up, not being ashamed of sharing about Him, giving Him glory through my schoolwork and the sports I do. Not being lazy or saying I'll pray later, but inviting Him into everything I do. And the truths in this Psalm help because they remind me He will answer, He does care, and the people around me are no match for Him.

QuestionAnswer
Why is the contrast important?I don't really see a huge contrast. In Psalm 3, David talks about his enemy's saying he doesn't have salvation in God, but he argues he does and that his strength is from the Lord and salvation. In Psalm 139, David talks about us being intricately created by God and how we can't escape His presence, and that He has a plan for our life including our salvation. Both are important so that we know nothing can uproot our faith, if others speak against us we know they're not as powerful as our maker and we know God has every page in our life planned out so we can just trust Him.
Add Comment
What are some things Psalm 3 and Psalm 139 have in common? They have in common praising God and talking about how He sustains us when we awake in the morning, they both touch on wicked men who rise up against God, and that ultimately His judgement will be upon them.
Add Comment
There is a contrast in the psalm around the idea of salvation. What is it ?In Psalm 3, David writes "salvation belongs to the Lord." In Psalm 39, salvation isn't outright mentioned, but David writes in detail about how we can't escape God's presence, how He's with us everywhere even in the darkness and that He is sovereign over our life, "In your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me," This indicates God has a plan for us and is working our salvation out in our life.

What three things does David ascribe (tell about) to God that would be helpful to keep in mind and why?"You are a shield about me", "I woke again, for the Lord sustained me", "Salvation belongs to the Lord". Him as our shield is helpful to keep in mind when we are anxious because we can imagine Him standing before us protecting us from dangers trying to reach us. It's helpful to to remember we wake because the Lord sustains us to know He is the provider of life and so no one else deserves our praise but Him.

A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. (You can read about it in 2 Samuel chapters 11-18). This Psalm is often called a morning psalm. Why would this be helpful to sing or pray in the morning? It would be helpful to remember who we find our strength in to start the day so that we don't become overwhelmed by family or people at school who don't like us. It's also just a good thing to speak in the morning to praise God.

Why was Jesus' death necessary?Because without a perfect sacrifice, we would never be able to get to heaven. God is perfect and we sin millions of times a day, but He still loves us and wants a relationship with us. So He sent Jesus, Himself and His son. He had to die to clean and wash us.

Why did Pilate give into the crowd and pharisees?Honestly not 100 percent sure, maybe because Jesus said it wasn't his sin doing it it would be whoever handed over Jesus? Or maybe because he knew his life/job was at stake? It had to happen though to fulfill prophesies.

What stands out to you about His death?Reading through it I never think about His mom and John watching part of it. I'm not a mom so I don't fully understand the pain, but it just breaks my heart. QuestionAnswer
This is taking place on Thursday evening, the day before Jesus was crucified. What is Jesus' main point to His disciples? His main point is that He's going to die, but be raised and join His father. He wants them to understand the joy and peace in Him surpasses what the world has to offer though many will think they're joyful when He dies.
Add Comment
How could this be confusing to His disciples?Because they've known Him for years, come to love and care for Him, and to hear that He's going to die but then come back but then go away would be very confusing. If they believed He could do anything, why did He have to go and come back?
Add Comment
How could this be encouraging to the disciples and to you? It's encouraging because since He's conquered death, He has our one hundred percent trust that He is in control, loves us more than anyone else, and is the reason we're alive. It encourages me to spread this gospel, to give me hope that He's coming back and one day I'll be able to meet Him!!

Who is the focus of Jesus' prayers? His father, God. That even through His trials, God will be glorified.
Add Comment
What does Jesus focus His prayer on for the disciples and other believers? He focuses His prayer on unity. That we would be one. There is so much division in churches these days, which goes against what Jesus wants. He wants us to love each other like brothers, to serve, to follow in His example.
Add Comment
What does Jesus praying tell you about the importance of prayer? It's important to acknowledge everything we have is from God. And that praying for our fellow believers is so important, because when we ask things of God He will be faithful to us.

What can you learn from Jesus' prayers as to how to pray for others?Honestly to do it more often. I so often pray for me, me, me, but it's so selfless to lift up others we know and to pray that the evil one won't overtake them or that they would come to know Jesus. There is so much power in prayer.
Add Comment
How would this change the way you pray for others? It changes the way I pray for others by being more bold. Asking God to reach people where there at, change their lives, forgive them, convict them, to trust He will be faithful and answer even if it doesn't look how I want it to.

QuestionAnswer
What do you learn about Jesus from this passage? He is love. He had all the power to stop what was happening. He was human, He was probably terrified, anxious, and yet He went on with it knowing it was to save the world which He loved. Even when Peter lashed out in protection of Jesus, He didn't want Him to because He wants us to be kind not violent.
Add Comment
Why does Jesus seem so calm?Because He knows the Father will take care of Him and He will be with Him soon. He was God and human at the same time, He was in control and knew what He had to do to save our lives.
Add Comment
How can we learn to remain calm during a crisis, storm, stress, emergency, etc?Calling on Him. He is the only source of everlasting joy and peace. We can find these temporarily on earth, but nothing compares with what He has, which we can't even fully grasp. Instead of spiraling, cast our anxieties on Him and He will strengthen us. Know that He has plans to prosper us not harm us. Reading His word or listening to worship can help in the storm.
Add Comment
What do you learn about the disciples, how were they reacting and feeling? They are spiraling. They are conflicted with sadness of what's happening to Jesus, but fear for their own lives as they are the only ones defying the government and people and standing with Him. We don't get a deep look into what Peter's feeling, but we can relate to him on a certain level when he denies being a follower of Jesus.

What can you learn about comforting someone from the way Jesus responded to Mary?He asked questions, He listened. Comforting is often just being there for someone. All the disciples were sad about His death, but Mary was crying and looking for Him and needed Him in that moment, and He was there for her.
Add Comment
What doubts do you have about Jesus being alive or being God?Sometimes it's easy to doubt when a) it feels like God is silent (really were just filling out minds with junk and distractions so much that we miss Him speak) or b) when other people say I'm weird or crazy for believing in Him.
Add Comment
HE IS RISEN! Take a minute to picture the interaction with Jesus and Mary. Think about her posture, how she is trying to talk while weeping, about how Jesus is looking at her. Think about her reaction when Jesus says her name. I think this is such a beautiful interaction. I picture Jesus saying her name with so much compassion, tenderness and love. And I picture her looking up with tear filled eyes and being filled with joy at the sound of her name. What do you see, feel or think about this interaction? The same. Just in awe that the God of the universe, with all power, could choose to be a tyrant and have everybody bend to his will, but no, He humbled himself, is love, cares for each one of us, took six days to craft the world but NINE months to form us. I'm so thankful we have such a loving God. And I love picturing Jesus saying my name tenderly like He did to Mary. "Stop searching. I'm right here. I'm with you."
Add Comment
Why was is it important that Jesus showed Himself to others?Because they would then tell of this and that's why we're here today in churches and believing. How can you use that style to share Jesus with someone? What would you use as imagery or illustration?I'm on the track team so I guess I could share an analogy using that with a teammate. For example, we can train, and practice, and run a race our very best at a meet, but if nobody starts the timer than what place we got doesn't matter and doesn't go into the system, we didn't win and no one knows how well we did. Similarly, we can live life trying to do good things and be a "good person", but if we don't believe in and have a relationship with Jesus, our creator, none of those things matter because we still mess up everyday. Salvation comes from faith, and you can't be too far from God's love you can accept Him where you're at now.
Add Comment
What do you see as a consistant theme or method to Jesus' teaching style (including this passage)?A constant them I see in Jesus' teaching is using parables or analogies to help people understand and to be more mysterious rather than outright. He explains that Him and God are one in so many ways.
Add Comment
How does it help you to understand His teaching?Personally I grew up with grandparents who had a small farm with goats, chickens, donkeys, seeing how my grandma took care of every animal and His teaching reminds me of that and helps me to understand it better, that He leaves the others just to find me and He is the gate and the only way to heaven. I'm sure different analogies relate to different people whether it's about the bread, water, or wine.

Why do you think Jesus uses earthly things as illustrations (water, light, bread, sheep, etc.) in His teaching?I think He does because we are humans, with earthly thinking, and for Him to tell us the truth we might not even understand it because He's heavenly and has much greater understanding than us. Hearing the gospel in terms of things we use or relate to helps us to apply it to our life.
