Those who don’t want to obey God are like: straw. Straw is not strong, it does not last, and it is quickly gone. At the time this was written people would winnow (separate the straw from the grain) grain. The men would cut wheat by hand and they would stack it in piles. They would let those piles dry out a bit. Women would come with big flat baskets. They would put some of the grain mixed with straw in the basket and swirl it around. Then they would throw it into the air. The grain was heavier than the dry straw so it would fall back into the basket, but the wind would blow the dry straw away.
