David offers at least four things you can do rather than worry about them in verses 3 and 4. Four things that will quiet your heart so you can sleep in peace. List some of them here and explain how each would help quiet your heart. | by praying Add Comment |
This Psalm is connected to psalm 3 and most scholars believe they were written as a pair. We have a morning Psalm and now a matching evening Psalm. Note: This is a song to be sung. David wrote it for the choir master to be sung in the temple in Jerusalem. However, when David wrote this Psalm he wasn’t in Jerusalem where the King should be, instead, he was on the run for his life. Note “Selah” is musical term that might mean pause. Has anyone or anything kept you awake at night while you thought about it over and over? Think carefully about this. It is a common experience. Sometime we are mad at a brother or sister who did something that was not fair. Sometimes we are mad at our parents. Sometimes someone said something about us that just was not true. We think about it over and over and we cannot sleep. This is called stewing or worrying over something. When we stew over something it can make it hard to sleep. The way we would say verse 8 is “the moment my head hit the pillow I am out like a light.” How is this possible even when things are not going OK? | because he created us Add Comment |
Verse 4 is a bit odd. The word for anger here is not “be mad” but rather be in “awe” of God. When we are upset and we cannot sleep the last thing we think about is God. Silence is another word that can mean to be in awe. Can we talk to God about what makes us upset? | yes Add Comment |
How would this help us not to continue to be upset and calmly fall asleep? | by hiring the word Add Comment |
Can we sit quietly and think about God instead of thinking about what is making us upset? | yes Add Comment |

There is one way that you can be sure to have God protect you and that is to become his child forever. If you are not sure you are God’s child, then talk to your parents or your Sunday School teacher about this. Do you have any questions about becoming a Christian? (If you have not asked Jesus into your heart, you must simply believe you are a sinner and have done wrong things, believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and the rose to life and then ask Jesus to come into your heart so you can live for him). | no Add Comment |
Do you want to go to Heaven some day? | yes Add Comment |
Those who don’t want to obey God are like: straw. Straw is not strong, it does not last, and it is quickly gone. At the time this was written people would winnow (separate the straw from the grain) grain. The men would cut wheat by hand and they would stack it in piles. They would let those piles dry out a bit. Women would come with big flat baskets. They would put some of the grain mixed with straw in the basket and swirl it around. Then they would throw it into the air. The grain was heavier than the dry straw so it would fall back into the basket, but the wind would blow the dry straw away. So which do you want to be like the straw or the tree and why? | the tree because it is rated in the bible Add Comment |
God made us to live forever with Him someday in a very real place called Heaven.
